FAQ

Do I have to register to vote?

Nope! North Dakota is the only state in the U.S. that doesn’t have voter registration.

DO I HAVE TO VOTE FOR THE SAME PARTY?

If you’re voting in the primary in June, you cannot not cross over and vote for candidates of different political parties. If you do, your ballot will be spoiled and not counted. The June primary is the election where the members of each political party vote for the candidate that will best represent them on the November ballot.

If you are voting in November, you have the freedom to vote for anyone on either party.

What should I use to fill out my ballot?

If you vote early in person or on election day, the election officials will provide you with an appropriate writing utensil.

If you’re filling out an absentee ballot at home, be sure to look at the instructions on how to accurately fill out your ballot so that it’s accepted. It’s important to use a pen with blue or black ink and color in the circle as fully as you can. Remember to also stay in the lines!
